Calculating Hydropower
Unfortunately it is impossible to capture all of this power as nothing is 100% efficient. Most hydropower turbine generators have an efficiency around 70%. This means that 30% of the kinetic energy is lost and not transformed into mechanical energy. Of this 70% between 10 to 20% is lost again when the mechanical energy is transformed into electrical energy. So by the end of the process only around 50%-60% of the available hydropower become electrical energy (REUK, 2015).
